As I look to the year ahead, there's much to be thankful for. Here's what I've learned after another year of daily LinkedIn posts - and an announcement.

New connections made

When I started posting regularly on LinkedIn in 2023, I had a long list of lofty goals:

  • Engagements metrics.
  • Follower growth.
  • Profile views.

However, nothing quite prepared me for the many new connections and friendships I've made. Let's just say that my horizons have been vastly expanded.

I'm lousy with selfies and posting about meetups. However, I am extremely grateful for the many coffee catchups and connections made in 2024.

Knowledge gained

I've made it a point to freely share what I know. To my surprise, the adage that sharing knowledge deepens understanding rang true. My attempts to explain clearly and simply deepened my understanding.

I'm also humbled by the many insightful comments and knowledge that various experts and industry professionals have chimed in with. Properly replying to the many thoughtful remarks sometimes took up more time than writing the original post!

There were some who made snide remarks, but I can honestly say they can be counted with the fingers of one hand.

Only outcomes matter

I racked up 64,882 engagements in 2024 or 181 engagements per post. I also averaged ~40 profile views per day in 2024 - yup, that's over 14,000 in 2024.

So what? 600 days after I started posting seriously on LinkedIn, I can say with certainty:

  • Metrics don't correlate with outcomes.
  • Majority of my customers don't even engage.
  • I prefer outcomes to metrics.

So, don't miss the forest for the trees. Focus on making valuable new connections, grow your understanding, and customers will follow naturally. You don't need to join a pod for that.

Going on to the next phase

What will I be doing next? Don't worry, I have no plans to stop my daily posts here.

However, I've come to realise that LinkedIn might not be the best platform for sharing deep insights and opinions. Posts are transient, and it is crazy difficult to find old comments with valuable nuggets of information.

As such, I'd like to announce the launch of my Substack "Clearly Tech", where I plan to share weekly:

  • Insights
  • Opinions
  • Explainers

about the latest developments in technology.
