The Huawei MatePad 12 X tablet is gentle on your eyes with its textured matte display certified for low visual fatigue.

Some quick specifications:

  • 5.9mm thin; 555 grams.
  • 12GB RAM, 256GB storage.
  • 12-inch, 1,000 nits LCD screen.
  • 2800 x 1840 resolution (280ppi).

Here's what I liked about it:

Full-sized keyboard

I touch type and the keyboard is really important to me. Huawei's keyboard is full-sized where it matters, too, including the numeric row and arrow keys. I have no complaints about the tactile feel either.

Keyboard case included

Unlike all other brands where you must spend an additional $300-$450 for a keyboard, Huawei has been bundling its keyboard case for free. This gives its tablets compelling value for productivity tasks.

The boxed product comes with a bundled stylus too, though my unit came without (it didn't make it in time).

Comfortable screen

In a bid to improve the display, Huawei has in recent years focused on making the displays of its tablets easier on the eye, culminating with its "PaperMatte Display" technology.

PaperMatte uses nano-level etching on the glass for the matte effect. I believe this is a similar technology offered by the iPad Pro on its top models - and even then, as a paid option.

Rapid charging

Nothing frustrates more than having to wait a few hours to fully charge a depleted tablet. The MatePad 12 X comes with 66W SuperCharge to speedily juice up the tablet.

I didn't time how long it took the tablet took to charge, but my experience with various Huawei smartphones with SuperCharge has been highly satisfactory. And yes, the charger comes in the box, too.

Conclusion

To be clear, the Huawei MatePad 12 X doesn't come with Google Play. However, I easily got microG and Aurora Store installed, which allowed me to download and run Android apps from the Play Store.

I've always thought Huawei made very good tablets that offer exceptional value for its price. And the MatePad 12 X continues to uphold this view.

With some stacking of vouchers, the Huawei MatePad 12 X is currently available for below SG$800 on Lazada.
