The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a polished smartphone that gives you practically everything you'll want in a foldable.
I've been using the Pixel 9 Pro Fold for the last couple of weeks. As a long-time fan of foldables, here's my initial thoughts about it.
What I loved about it
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a beautiful foldable that I found to be very well designed and integrated.
It also comes with:
- One-button access to Gemini.
- Polished design and well-fitted case.
- Support for rear-camera selfies*.
*Unfold the phone and capture a selfie with the rear camera, reviewing your shot with the front screen.
What took some getting used to
I've long avoided the Samsung Fold family due to its narrow front screen. While the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is slightly narrower than the Huawei Mate Xs2 that I'm used to, it comes close enough.
Another area I have to get used to is the lack of a built-in stand like those found in the Honor Magic family foldables.
That's about it! Overall, I liked just about everything else about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
What I didn't like
The only thing I didn't like about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was its relatively slow charging. To be clear, charging is actually pretty decent with the right charger and cable,
But it's definitely noticeably slower than the various fast charging China brands that I've grown used to. Can't have everything, I guess!
Final thoughts
Ultimately, the book-style foldables being offered are rapidly converging in terms of capabilities and specifications.
I'll expect improvements to slow down and taper off, and the next "foldable" battle be fought with tri-fold smartphones.
A quick question: Do you currently use a foldable smartphone? What do you love about it?
