The future of job hunting might be an AI-only affair

Could hiring, job applications be handled solely by AI systems?

The future of job hunting might see AI applying for jobs on your behalf, with other AI systems. And it's already starting on LinkedIn.

Businesses have increasingly turned to tools such as Applicant Tracking Systems, or ATS, to streamline hiring processes.

It looks like someone has created an AI-powered tool to even the odds by helping job seekers automatically apply for jobs.

AI bot for jobs

According to a report on 404 Media, you can now use an AI bot to apply for jobs on LinkedIn - at scale.

Here's what "AI Hawk" can do:

  • Search for jobs on LinkedIn.
  • Apply by filling in relevant details.
  • Custom resume, cover letter based on advert.

And it's pretty fast too, applying for a dozen jobs over a quick breakfast.

How does AI Hawk work?

  • Free Python program on GitHub.
  • Uses either OpenAI or Gemini LLMs.
  • Generate custom cover letters and resumes.
  • Uses job description and other company information.

The tool is already used by thousands of users.

Gaming the system

Below are some quotes from AI Hawk's Telegram community of over 4,700 members, according to the report.

  • "Ran it overnight, applied to around 150 jobs. Got an HR call this morning... and I'm just getting started lol. I'm gonna have it run 24/7. Planning to apply to thousands of jobs..."
  • "Over 3 months... I applied to 2,843 roles... I’ve had 4 interviews, received one offer for a Senior Data Engineer role at £85k, and I'm awaiting feedback on another offer, pending the results of a test.”
  • “Applied to 200 jobs so far... It’s saved me more than 2 weeks of applications at my previous rate. Wonderful application. Absolutely bonkers helpful.”

Banned on LinkedIn

To be clear, the co-creator of the tool, Federico Elia, has been banned by LinkedIn for using AI Hawk due to the "automation" clause.

But he views his creation not as a race to the bottom, but as a way to improve the efficiency and personalisation of the traditional recruitment process.

Crucially, Federico envisions a future where fully AI-driven job boards assist both job seekers and companies to overcome the inefficiencies of hiring.

A future where advanced AI systems match us to our jobs. And we only have to show up for work. I don't know about you, but this doesn't sit well with me.
