STT GDC Philippines says its massive 124MW data centre campus is on schedule to go live Q2 of 2025.

In an announcement on Thursday, STT GDC says its STT Fairview Campus will be the largest in the Philippines - with 124MW of IT capacity.

STT Data Centres

STT GDC Philippines is a joint venture (JV) between Globe, the Ayala Corporation, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC).

Details are sparse about STT Fairview:

  • Built to meet requirements of hyperscalers.
  • Located in Quezon City, Metro Manila.
  • Phase 1 RFS by Q2 2025.

STT GDC Philippines operates 5 other fairly small data centres, carved out of Globe as part of the JV in 2022.

Manila:

  • STT Makati (5MW).
  • STT Quezon City (>6MW).
  • STT Mandaluyong (10MW).

Calabarzon:

  • STT Cavite 1 (>4MW).

Davao:

  • STT Davao (0.5MW).

Another data centre, STT Cavite 2 (6MW), is currently under construction.

Hyperscale strategy

It is immediately clear that STT GDC Philippines is looking to entice public cloud giants with its massive STT Fairview Campus.

The release highlighted capabilities that they will want:

  • Energy-efficient technologies.
  • Connectivity options.
  • Massive capacity.

Indeed, the JV leverages STT GDC's hyperscale data centre know-how, Globel's connectivity, and Ayala's access to renewables.

The Philippines

The Philippines is experiencing a quiet revolution in data centre growth, arguably the fastest in Southeast Asia based on Early Stage capacity.

The Philippines data centre market according to DC Byte's 2024 Global Data Centre Index:

  • Live: 61MW.
  • Under Construction: 50MW.
  • Committed: 86MW.
  • Early Stage: 422MW.

In terms of Early Stage capacity, the only country that is close would be Thailand - though Thailand has a much more mature data centre market.

The Philippines has a huge population of over 116 million - only behind Indonesia in Southeast Asia.

It'll be interesting to see how the Philippines data centre market pan out - and if it will leapfrog other countries in the region through modern, hyperscale data centres.
