Who says local firms cannot innovate? Singapore listed firm shows off its cutting-edge, practical inventions.

From an AI tool for real-time deep fake detection, a locally designed zero client, and an instant Command and Control platform for disaster workers, ST Engineering has them covered.

And 2,000 attendees saw them at this year's ST Engineering InnoTech 2024 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

Hotbed of innovation

I'm used to attending conferences locally and abroad where big tech firms show off their new inventions, but less so for Singaporean firms.

It's hence nice to attend InnoTech again for a first-hand glimpse of new solutions from the labs of ST Engineering, a Singapore-listed group.

Crucially, they are practical and available for sale.

Einstein.AI banishes the deep fakes

Concerned about deep fakes? Einstein AI operates on 3 levels in real-time to help you tell reality from AI fabricated videos.

  • Check videos for tell-tale signs of AI subterfuge.
  • Validates content with trusted news sources.
  • Sentiment analysis to detect hate speech.

Perhaps they'll put the capabilities of Einstein AI into an app by next year?

Secure computing with D'Crypt

I recalled my excitement with thin clients back in the days. Well, ST Engineering decided to create its own zero client called "D'Crypt".

Lighter than your smartphone (150 grams), this nifty device plugs into a USB C hub for power, keyboard, and mouse, and HDMI to a screen.

Viola. An instant computer for secure access to apps with robust encryption at FIPS Security Level 4.

  • Runs on Ubuntu.
  • Designed in Singapore.
  • Device costs just SG$500 each^.
  • Platform customisable as required.

So far, 3 militaries and 1 school have expressed interest. And yes, the next version will use ARM chips and be fully ruggedised.

^Exclude 3rd-party licensing and annual fees.

AGIL Response for emergencies

By drones, body worn cameras, and mobile apps, AGIL Response lets emergency workers or security forces rapidly coordinate their response through a single dashboard.

With live and searchable video feeds.

Devices comes with support for Wi-Fi mesh and satellite communications, so it works even in "cellular denied" environments.

Honey, I shrunk the AGIL Vision

I wrote about AGIL vision last year, an on-prem, AI-powered video solution that lets you search dozens of camera feeds, ChatGPT style. Well, the new model is now 1/4 the size - check out the photo.

Have you seen any noteworthy innovation by a Singaporean firm recently?
