SM+ holds groundbreaking for AI-ready data centre
Located in Jakarta's central business district.

SM+ today held the groundbreaking of its SMX01 data centre, an AI-ready data centre located in Jakarta's central business district (CBD).
- The data centre represents a US$300 million investment and is a joint venture with Korea Investment Real Asset Management (KIRA).
- Developed in collaboration with LG Sinar Mas, a joint venture between SM+ and Korea's LG, as the technology advisor and operator.
By the specs
Here are the details:
- 18MW IT capacity; upgradable to 60MW.
- 11 storeys with 9 data halls.
- Support for 130kW racks*.
- No basements.
With multiple carrier options via multiple fibre entry paths, SMX01 will begin operations in 2H 2026.
*Enough for latest Nvidia GB200 GPUs.

Modern and AI-ready
According to SM+, it will feature the latest air-cooling with liquid cooling options available on-demand.
Liquid cooling options include:
- Active rear-door (RDHx).
- Direct to chip.
- Immersion.
In fact, the plan is to go for Uptime Tier IV^ and the BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (Gold) accreditations.
^Specific floors.
Into the big league
SM+ is hardly new to data centres; it owns and manages 24 data centres across Indonesia. Many of these are smaller, edge data centres though.
The SMX01 facility hence represents a massive increase in its total data centre capacity.
What's more, the building will occupy just one of three adjacent parcels of land. This means SM+ has room to potentially triple it into a data centre campus.
Question of power
It is easy to make big claims, however. Does SM+ actually have access to enough power for a data centre campus in the heart of the CBD?
I had my doubts initially. After all, there are operators in Indonesia who could not fully build up their data centres due to an inability to secure additional power.
I managed to get on a call with Avnish Patankar, who confirmed that SM+ has a commitment from national grid operator PLN.
Short answer: SM+ has the power.
- Access to 460 MVA within 5 years.
- Dual 30 MVA incoming power feeds (Phase 1).
- Substation built on the grounds of SMX01.
If anything, I'll say the capacity SM+ quoted in their press release is very conservative.
So yes, SMX01 is a bona fide AI-ready data centre.
