Lenovo has invested substantially in AI and expanded its portfolio into areas such as retail and logistics.
This was the message shared by Nigel Lee at Lenovo TechDay 2024 today.
At the media session in the morning, Nigel shared how Lenovo's AI investment commitment stands at US$1 billion and how it has 70 some AI-optimised infrastructure products today.
Moving beyond PCs
Indeed, Lenovo has diversified far beyond PCs and servers, and now offers a range of solutions across multiple niches. Some areas that Nigel briefly touched on:
- Retail automation: Features such as people analytics, self-checkout capabilities, and customer behaviour analysis.
- Logistics: Demand prediction, package tracking, smart manufacturing, and smart manufacturing solutions.
- Lenovo ESG navigator: Closed-loop navigator; not just track carbon produced but able to offer a solution.
Six-legged bot
In its bid to be at the forefront of industrial automation and public services, Lenovo created a six-legged bot: The Daystar Bot GS, which it showed off at TechDay.
The bot is exceptionally stable and walks on cobblestone, grass, metal grates - and even climbs stairs. In fact, it can carry a high load and won't topple when kicked on its side.
The idea is for the Daystar GS to conduct inspection tasks, capture meter readings, and generate automated reports complete with images accessible from a central console.
So perhaps even security guards aren't safe from automation.
