I wanted to buy a couple of these data centre PDUs, or Power Distribution Units, the moment I saw it.

When I checked out the rear door cooler (RDC) from Legrand Singapore recently, I also spent time looking at their PDU solution.

I actually contemplated purchasing two of them. Serious.

Linkeo PDUs

The Linkeo family of Data Centre Intelligent PDUs comes in multiple variants with different number of outlets, 1U or 0U layouts, metered or switched versions.

The following are standard:

  • Zigbee built in (Disabled by default).
  • Base or IP controller options (Swappable).
  • Add-on sensors: Door contact, temp & humidity.
  • Heat-tolerant hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers.

Additional features

With the IP controller on a metered PDU, you can manage it via a Web UI to review metering data, control outlets, or define parameters for alerts. Perfect for data centres - or your home!

In addition:

  • Legrand says its Linkeo PDU is based on a DCIM-agnostic open API platform.
  • For a single-digit order quantity, it's possible to customise the PDUs with different printed colours on their exterior for colour coding.
  • Up to 256 PDUs can be daisy chained using USB/RS485 to just 1x IP address.

Mind your cords

When I set up my work desk at home, I switched to IEC power cords because it's more space-efficient and work great with my PDUs.

So the cord solution got my attention too. There are two components:

  • Unique rotary mechanism on a proprietary C13 plug that works with any standard C14 inlet. Simply twist the dial to lock them in place; twist in the other direction to unlock.
  • Cord locking system on their PDUs that works with any standard C14 plug to prevent accidental disconnects. You'll need to press down hard on the orange toggle to release.

While I was tempted by the 8-port version, I didn't in the end, as I already have two networked 8-port IEC PDUs mounted under my desk.

But I did enquire and found it's priced at half of what I spent on mine. Maybe for my next desk!
